HART device family are devices with same manufacturer ID and expanded device type code but different model names due to outlines, physical sensors and/or configurations.
A HART "Registered Device Family" would be a series of products that all contain the same HART Physical Layer, DLL layer, run exactly the same HART application layer, and they would all share the same expanded device type...which means they would all use the same EDD and FDI Package.
There would have to be one single "string name", a common name, associated with the unique expanded device type for the HART Family, but each family member with various model name string can receive a unique registration certificate and catalog page on our website.
Pricing for registration and testing for a Device Family is higher than it would be for a single product, however, if there are more than two members to the Device Family, it is a significant savings overall vs. registration of separate devices, edd, and FDI Package.
Since there is only one expanded device type and one HART App Layer and PHY, FCG can accept any one sample of the product family and testing that sample will be the same as testing all the other family members.
But prior to scheduling the test, the manufacturer must name all family members by their product names as they will be marketed on our website, and describe the differences (sensors, housings, etc.) and declare that they are all qualified to be registered as a Device Family because they meet all the above requirements (same PHY, same device type, same edd, same fdi package, etc.). Model names of each member in the device family should be provided during the
registration of the HART device type code, together with the single common name for the whole family members which will be disclosed in the EDD/FDI package.
While each Family Member named in the letter will receive a UNIQUE registration certificate and associated product registration page in our website, all of those catalog pages will link to the same EDD and FDI Package.
The alternative is to just register this product as a regular HART device, a single expanded device type code associated with a string name something like "XYZ Series". But you only get a single registration certificate, a single product page on our website with a single image and a single marketing description. Or,
Apply for multi expanded device type codes for each of them, and register them one by one per the single device registration procedures, or the private label registration after the first one registered. So that you can get multi registration certificates, product pages with various images and marketing descriptions.
