FieldComm Group has posted the Ethernet-APL/Ethernet-SPE Specification 2.0 for member review and comment. Members are encouraged to submit comments by May 9, 2025.
SUMMARY
The Independent Protocol Physical Layer joint Working Group have implemented an updated Port Profile Specification that adds non-intrinsically safe single pair Ethernet to the specification. The new port profiles, including power classes, are designed to extend the application of single pair Ethernet and allow users a non-intrinsically safe option for installation.

The specifications are developed and maintained through a joint collaboration between FieldComm Group, ODVA, OPC Foundation and PROFIBUS & PROFINET International. All FieldComm Group members are encouraged participate in this process.
MEMBER COMMENT DETAILS
The proposed Ethernet-APL/Ethernet-SPE Specification d2.0 is provided for review. The specification was updated to add the definition of Ethernet-SPE, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Ethernet- SPE definition
  • Ethernet-SPE relationship to IEEE 802.3-2022 and 10BASE-T1L
  • Device classification
  • Device port class
  • Power class
  • Terminals and connectors
  • Network configuration rules
The final product of this review will be submitted to IEC for standardization as IEC 63444.

1. Visit the Member Comment posting 
Once you have an account, login to FieldComm Group Workspace, then visit https://workspace.fieldcommgroup.org/member-comments and select MC-013 Ethernet APL Specification.

2. Download and submit comments before May 9, 2025
Comments must be submitted using the FieldComm Group Workspace Comment feature - once you are on the specifications page, please click on the arrow next to the DOWNLOAD button and choose ADD A COMMENT.
It is important that you provide the complete information so that the Working Group can properly resolve the comments.
