HART Test Specifications

Comments due by October 29, 2020
FieldComm Group has posted the core HART Test Specifications (Token-Passing Data Link Layer, Universal Command and Common Practice Command Test Specifications) for member review and comment.

The three specifications were reviewed by the HART Technology Working Group at the June 2020 WG meeting with a goal to make improvements. The majority of the improvements made were mainly clarifications and minor corrections. The Working Group recommended to issue a maintenance release of these Test Specifications.
For more details, please see the HART Technology WG meeting minutes posted on FCG Workspace: Communities > HART Technology > Workspace > Documents > Meeting Minutes > Minutes of Meeting 2020-06-22
Prior to its official release, FieldComm Group members are provided the opportunity to review the test specifications and are being asked to submit comments. The deadline for comment submission is October 29, 2020. The test specifications will be released once the comments are resolved and changes finalized.
Summary of Changes
The improvements to the specification are marked in blue within each document, with change bars. Highlights of the improvements include:
  • Token-Passing Data-Link Layer: this test specification has refactored DLL032, DLL034 and DLL038. The test requirements are now partitioned between Data-Link and Application Layer.  Only the Data-Link specific test requirements remain in this test specification.

  • Universal Command: UAL004, UAL014 and UAL015 were added as the result of the refactoring of the Token-Passing Data-Link Layer test cases.

  • Common Practice Command: only minor clarifications and corrections were made, principally to the Common Practice burst-mode test cases.
See the Preface and Revision History in the individual documents for more information.
