Can we keep the same physical layer (electronics such as HART modem chips) which was used for HART 5 implementation?

Please see section 6 of the Command Summary specification (HCF_SPEC-099 v9.0) regarding field device revision rules, there are notes about updating from a HART 5 implementation.
