No, unfortunately, once a DD Item (such as a VARIABLE or COMMAND Name) has been registered at FieldComm Group it is given a unique Symbol Number for that DD Item name and it is "locked" down with a specific symbol name and symbol number in the Symbols.txt .
This number and name must remain the same for the life of the Device Type.
Later on, in a future EDD, If you change the name of that DD construct, the tokenizer will associate a different symbol number for that name, and this can cause Upload/Download Issues between EDD revisions.
You can always change the LABEL (as this is what the user sees) as long as the meaning of that parameter does not change.
Therefore, before you send your EDD to be registered, please make sure you are very comfortable with the naming convention in your EDD because you will need to live with it for a long time.
