To set up your WirelessHART Test System to run the wireless TML Tests, connect one Access Point (AP) to a USB port on the Test System. Currently, only one AP is needed to run WirelessHART tests. Do not connect the second one.

Connect a registered RS-232 HART modem between the maintenance port of your WirelessHART device and the serial port on the HTS (HART Test System) that is designated for the HART Master. All TML tests first communicate with the WirelessHART device via FSK and perform the initial provisioning and setup before the wireless part of the test starts. So, before starting any TML test, it is essential to connect one registered RS-232 HART modem between the HTS and the device and also connect one AP to a USB port of the HTS. Without both connections in place, the TML test would fail or abort immediately.

The functional diagram of the setup is below:

It is important that there is good physical separation between the 3 radio antennae (AP, DUT and Wi-Analys) involved in the TML tests. The proximity and orientation of the antennae can result in certain EM field interactions which could result in missed wireless packets.

Since the AP and the DUT need a wired connection to the HTS (via USB cable and FSK modem respectively), they cannot be placed very far. A good setup can be achieved by connecting the AP to the HTS via a USB cable and placing it to one side of the HTS, then connecting the DUT to the HTS via the RS-232 HART modem and placing it on the other side of the HTS. This creates > 5' (150cm) distance between the antennae on the AP and the DUT. The Wi-Analys connected to a Windows PC does not need to be anywhere close to the HTS and could be placed across the room from where the HTS is kept.

Once the setup is complete, type "lstmlscr" (without quotes) on the Linux terminal on the HTS. The list of TML tests implemented on the HTS will be displayed. Type the name of the TML test from the displayed list that you wish to run exactly as displayed, then press <Enter> to run the test (e.g., TML102A).

No automated Post Processor exists for wireless tests. Currently, all evaluation of wireless tests is done by manually analyzing the radio traffic captured by Wi-Analys. If you have questions about TML tests, please open a Support Ticket (select Product Support, WirelessHART Test System) for assistance. Include the Serial Number or Service Tag number of your HTS in your ticket for faster resolution.

You will need to order Wi-Analys (KIT-190) separately.  The software for that tool is installed on a Windows PC (Windows 10, 64-bits). To capture the radio traffic generated by a TML test (both the test stimulus packets and the device response) in wireless test logs named uniquely for each TML test, configure the Wi-Analys (KIT-190) with the appropriate Network ID (0x8BCD) and Join Key (0x00008BCD000000000000000000000000) and start logging.

Updating the Test System

If your Test System is subscribed to the Product Service Program, you will receive updates of new releases. In the initial KIT-193 shipment, you will find a USB flash drive with the installation kit (tarball) for KIT-193 with instructions to install it on the HTS. When you receive updates via download, the installation steps to apply the update are very similar to the ones for the USB flash drive.
