ANALYS is a HART bus analyzer. It is completely passive and is not capable of transmitting HART commands. ANALYS has significant capabilities include both manually and automatically logging data to disk, the data can be saved as a binary or text file and considerable timing and framing information is supplied.

For Data Link Layer testing the "APPL DEFAULTS" should be configured as shown in the HART Test System User Manual. In other words, "Matrix Startup Mode" = AUTO; "Log Data" = C (Command); and "Bus Analyzer Display" = FRAMED. Once the correct Comm Port is selected under "HART DEFAULTS" select "RUN SOFTWARE".

ANALYS does not have a users manual. ANALYS is a relatively straight forward and useful application. By setting the "Bus Analyzer Circular Buffer Length" to a large value (like 200), the "Extended Viewing" function allows many transactions to be reviewed from the run-time display.

ANALYS was distributed on a USB that contained the FreeDOS operating system and the ANALYS program. Today, you can create your own equivalent setup. Once you create the bootable USB ANALYS, to use the program reboot your computer to load from the USB drive. When the command line appears type in ANALYS and the program will start operating

Users may find it useful to use ANALYS to log events to a file other than when using the system with DLL testcases. The following procedure is needed to log to files other than when using the DLL testcases. For example, when troubleshooting between master (host) and slave (field device, actuator)

From the command line run ANALYS

Choose "A" which is "Appl Defaults"

A menu called "Bus Analyser Defaults" will open.

Use the down arrow to select "Log Data"

Press the "F2" to open the selection menu.

Choose "Yes" to change the log from command driven(DLL testcase) to logging as long as ANALYS is open. Press enter to accept the change to "Y".

Press the up arrow to open the "Data Storage Info".

"Data Storage Info" will open with 3 items.

"Log File Type" should be "Binary" if not select using down arrow and press "F2" to bring up choices, press enter to choose selection.

"Log Structure Type" should be "Byte" if not select using down arrow and press "F2" to bring up choices, press enter to choose selection.

"Log File Name" defines the name of the file, mine is "TST.OUT". After inputing your filename, press enter.

The menu will return to the first item of the "Bus Analyser Defaults" menu.

Press enter until the program prompts you to save the changes.

Choose Y to save the changes.

Now when you run ANALYS, it will create an output file called TST.OUT (or whatever you named the file) Each time you run ANALYS then exit, it will overwrite this file. Be sure to reset the LOG DATA to "COMMAND" before running the testscripts (QAS) for the DLL testing.

FieldComm Group member companies may receive ANALYS without charge. ANALYS is not distributable and is for use only within FieldComm Group member companies to support their development effort and HART product testing. ANALYS may not be redistributed under any circumstances.
